👤 Challenge
A 30-year-old patient came to Warsaw Dental Center after three weeks of increasing pain in the area of the lower left seventh tooth. Four other dentists suspected an issue with the seventh tooth and suggested root canal treatment or extraction. Meanwhile, trismus developed and the patient could no longer open his mouth properly.
🔍 Diagnostics
Dr Bartosz Leończak ordered a CBCT scan, which revealed the true cause: an impacted lower left wisdom tooth fully hidden in the bone, lying horizontally and close to the root of the seventh tooth. A local inflammation had formed around the tooth, which spread to the soft tissues and caused trismus.
💡 Treatment
- Antibiotic therapy — to reduce swelling and allow the mouth to open.
- Surgical removal of the wisdom tooth — the tooth was carefully sectioned into smaller fragments and removed under magnification, which helped preserve healthy bone structure.
⚙️ Recovery & Result
The swelling subsided as expected, and the sutures were removed after 7 days. The patient returned to normal function and was grateful for the precise diagnosis and gentle treatment.
