healthy smile!

Overlays are typically used to repair damaged parts of teeth that may be too large to repair with fillings, while the damage is not extensive enough to require a dental crown.

Overlays include inlays, onlays, and overlays. An inlay is a single piece used to fill a cavity that is too large for a regular filling. An onlay is larger than an inlay but smaller than a dental crown. It is also a single piece but covers the entire cusp of the tooth (not just the area in between).

These restorations are more durable and long-lasting than regular fillings, due to the manufacturing method and materials. CAD/CAM technology, which we use at Warsaw Dental Center, such as the 3Shape scanner and milling machine, allows for the fabrication of an overlay within 3 hours, meaning faster tooth restoration and more saved time. The overlay can be made from reinforced composite material or ceramic.

outlays at Warsaw Dental Center step by step:

Outlays are personalized tooth restorations that provide a durable and aesthetic reconstruction of their damaged parts.

Step 1: Decay Removal: After administering anesthesia, the dentist will clean the tooth of decay under a microscope, preserving as much healthy tooth tissue as possible.

Step 2: Scanning: The prepared tooth for the overlay will be scanned, and its image will be sent to the computer. Based on this, our technician will design your new dental overlay.

Step 3: Color Matching: The dentist will match the color of the new overlay to blend seamlessly with the remaining tooth tissue.

Step 4: Overlay Printing: Within 2 hours, the overlay is cut out in a 3D printer.

Step 5: Attaching the Overlay: The received overlay is first fitted in your mouth by the dentist to ensure it fits well on the tooth. Then, in a rubber dam, without access to saliva, the overlay is attached to the tooth. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes.

Step 6: Checking: The final step is to check the overlay in your bite, after which you can enjoy your tooth again.

your most frequently asked questions about
outlays

Are overlays durable?

Yes, overlays are known for their durability and strength. Made from high-quality materials such as porcelain or composites, dental overlays can last for many years with proper care and regular dental check-ups.

What are the stages of placing overlays?

The process of placing overlays involves several stages. First, the dentist prepares the tooth by removing damaged tissue and preparing the tooth surface. Then, a scan of the tooth is taken and sent to the computer. There, our technician designs your individual Overlay. After about 2 hours, the Overlay is ready to be permanently cemented onto your tooth.

How to care for outlays?

To maintain the durability and aesthetics of Overlays, it’s important to adhere to proper oral hygiene practices. This includes regularly brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste, using dental floss or interdental brushes to remove food debris, and avoiding excessive consumption of foods and drinks that can lead to the formation of new plaque. Additionally, regular check-up visits to the dentist will help maintain the condition of the Overlays for a long time.
